There are many techniques to keep mosquitoes away. Between oils, repellents or even the use of bats, which ones are worth trying?

Unfortunately, who says return from the heat says return of mosquitoes. This summer, the latter abound everywhere in France, to the chagrin of people who seek to protect themselves by all means. It must be said that there are many techniques, from mosquito nets to essential oils and bats, which ones to remember?

The classics: mosquito nets and spirals

This is perhaps the simplest but also the most radical way to fight mosquitoes. The mosquito net prevents the insect from reaching your body and therefore offers you absolute immunity. You can find them at very affordable prices online or in stores. Negative point, you cannot take your mosquito net everywhere with you, so you have to look for alternatives if you are on the terrace for example.

Outdoors, we noticed more and more tiny green mosquito coils under tables this summer. You just have to light them so that the smoke they give off drives away the mosquitoes. “They repel mosquitoes in their immediate environment. On a large terrace, for example, you need one at each end,” notes the UFC Que Choisir website. Another well-known method: the diffuser, which works more or less in the same way but thanks to electricity.

The body: repellents and essential oils

There is a large supply of mosquito repellant. Either in the form of a spray or ointment, they are applied to the skin and are supposed to drive away the insect. “The most effective mosquito repellents are based on DEET in concentrations of 25%, 30% or even 50%”, recalls the UFC Que-Choisir. In the vast lot of repellents, you can find organic ones based on essential oils for example. Be careful though, some repellents are not recommended for young children or pregnant women.

The Originals: Coffee Ground and Bats

These techniques may be less effective than those mentioned above. However, they are interesting or even completely adapted to their mode of operation. For example, animal lovers, you can install bat houses near your terrace. The animal can gobble up hundreds of mosquitoes per hour. But unfortunately, this technique is ineffective during the day.

Another may be from burning yourself in a container of ground coffee. In fact, the smoke will repel the bloodthirsty animal. Especially since this method is 100% ecological.

There are also actions to know to limit mosquito invasions. In particular, turn over watering cans, cups, pots, and other containers that can create puddles of stagnant water that the animal loves.
