My electric bike was stolen for €3,000

At first there was nothing. Then Man invented the wheel. Then in 2022 Cowboy invented the Cowboy 4 ST electric bike. On the other hand: there was nothing, since it was stolen from me. On June 2, 2022, the JV Tech editorial team was pleased to receive the Cowboy 4 ST for testing. The perfect opportunity to do our first e-bike test, but obviously not everything went according to plan…

my love for cycling

As a child, and as soon as I could, I rushed on my older sisters’ bikes to learn how to ride them. Then a love story was born, between the world of cycling and me.

And that’s good, all my friends from elementary school like speed, but especially cross country. From the age of 7 I began to speed down the slopes of the small cross-country track that was in my small hometown.

From BMX to the skate park to cyclocross on the steep bumps of the track, nothing scared me. But obviously, I was too busy with other passions to continue doing cross country, or even riding a bike.

When the editorial staff received this electric bike for testing, I jumped at the chance. I was going for the first time in my life to ride a bike in the Paris region, and believe me, it is very different from my native countryside…

My first impressions of the Cowboy 4 ST high-end electric bike

Obviously I knew we weren’t going to be dealing with cyclocross bikes or the like, but for the first time I was going to try an electric bike and a pretty expensive bike as well.

In early June, the newsroom finally took delivery of the Cowboy 4 ST, an electric bike with a lot of class and plenty of options. Whoever says many options, says rising price… And that’s because the Cowboy 4 ST is sold for the tidy sum of €2,790.

The Cowboy 4 ST is a high-end electric bike created by the brand of the same name. After manufacturing 3 generations of motorcycles, the Cowboy 4 is presented as the culmination of his work. Full of features, a removable battery, an ultra complete application, everything was perfect to give me a very good experience.

After a brief explanation of the main functions of the cowboy 4 ST, I hasten to store it in the bike room set up for this purpose. After several internal problems, it is impossible for me to recover it the same night. Quite disappointed, I just take the bus until the problem is fixed.

It does ! A week later I finally mounted the 4 ST jean. Incredible first impressions – nice grip and kick start that changes me a lot from classic bikes.

On the first trip home, the urge compels me to take several laps around different blocks of buildings, just to enjoy the pleasant feeling of strolling through the Paris region without being stuck in traffic jams.

A good half hour later, I finally return to my building where I hasten to leave the bike in the room, located on my ground floor.

All afternoon I had only one desire: to get on the 4 ST cowboy for a ride, but the obligations of adults you know… So I had to wait until the next day to enjoy a ride during the cool morning, between my house and the editorial office of

After two full weeks of use, the drama was fast approaching… In the dark and… No, something downright stupid happened leading to the 4 ST jean being stolen.

The flight of the cowboy 4 ST, a drama in one act

When I was starting to get my bearings with the 4 ST cowboy, tragedy struck my building: all the floors were flooded with water… Poor work done by one of the owners damaged the entire water system… No I no longer had my solution to store the electric bike.

On top of that, there is the fact that I had to rush for an important meeting, the pressure mounts and so I decide to hang the bike on a barrier located right in front of my living room, so I will always have an eye on him.

Naive as I am, like a good provincial (that’s what Parisians call us), I stupidly thought my bike was safe. The street is constantly full of people and I was still able to peek out whenever I wanted. Well that’s what I thought.

After a full night of work, I decided to get some sleep, I deserved it.

Waking up just a few hours later at 7am, my first instinct was to go see if the bike was still there. And obviously he was gone… What was my reaction when I saw that the bike was gone? I pulled up the cowboy app to see if it could track the GPS chip located in the frame of the bike, but nothing at all… The 4 ST cowboy bike, valued at €2790 was missing… So I rushed to inform my editor to report the theft . . As a result of this, I had to go to the police station to report the theft.

Many questions began to cross my mind: what will become of me? Can we find the bike? How will my teammates react? Of all these questions, one answer was sure, I was not going to find the bike since the GPS was obviously not working.

A bike ready for a test, valued at €2,790, completely gone… It’s the life I hadn’t planned on living, but hey, anything can happen.

Conclusion of this bad experience.

While I was happy and proud to do this test, the Paris region outclassed me. I guess I could have done something else to keep this bike from being stolen, but you can’t change the past.

One day out is too much. If you ever own a fairly expensive bike, tell yourself it’s quick to be noticed by thieves. And tell yourself that even with a huge metal padlock strapped around the frame, the theft couldn’t be prevented.

If this experience taught me anything, it is that you always have to return the bike to a place, a room or whatever. A few hours can be enough and you will be in for a bad surprise first thing in the morning.
